I work individually with employees within organisations to help them to take responsibility for their own career development, identifying where in the organisation would be their best ‘fit’, and planning the steps needed to get there.
We use a range of exercises to help people to gain insight from their past career, assess their current situation and make decisions about the future. I also act as an adviser, particularly regarding how to “package” and market skills and experience within an organisation. Much of the time, however, I use active listening techniques – reflecting, probing and clarifying – to help people sort out in their own minds what is the best way forward for them. In doing this the aim is to give ownership of the process and its outcomes firmly to participants, and to increase their capacity to continue managing their career in the future.
