Winston Churchill said “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”
So just how do you keep positive if you don’t seem to be getting anywhere when you’re looking for a new job? Get up, get dressed and get going early. Starting your day with purpose is key to ensuring that the day will be productive.
Treat your job search like a job, with a routine that has clear boundaries between in work and out of work time.
Set yourself goals and objectives, such as the number of emails you will send or networking meetings you will set up that day.
if you’re going to be speaking to potential employers or other people who are in a position to help you in your job search, prepare for the meeting or phone call by thinking through your strengths and achievements beforehand, looking back on your whole life and what you’ve done. Summon all your strength to appear confident and enthusiastic. If you don’t feel that way, fake it! Act your socks off!
Look after yourself – eat healthily, take exercise and get enough sleep.
Spend time with people who make you feel good – avoid those who tend to bring you down.
Ask friends and family to support and encourage you. Different people give you different types of support. Some will make you feel competent and valued, some will give you honest, constructive feedback, some will challenge your thinking, some will simply cheer you up when you’re down.
When you just can’t do it anymore, take a break and do something you enjoy and makes you feel good.
Job search isn’t for the faint-hearted. You need to be patient and persevere. You need backbone and resilience. Above all you need to sell yourself. You will get there eventually…..
